I have completely given up on it. I'm an attractive guy, I have a stable well-paying job as an IT security auditor and yet I remain dateless. I think you nailed the problem in your first paragraph - it *is* like a catalog of men and girls do "flip" right on through it. So unless you are drop dead gorgeous, there is very little way to establish rapport with a girl that you may be perfect for, but not be exactly her "type"...
